Highland Proofreading and Editing Services (HPES) was set up in 2024. The aim of HPES is to provide clients with a range of thorough services to help them to polish their writing to the highest possible standard. We offer competitive rates and a quick turnaround for projects.
Our Story
Why engage a proofreader or copy editor? You may not be completely confident in the accuracy of your spelling, grammar and expression. Or you may not have English as your first language and want to have your work checked for accuracy. Or you may have written a lengthy document and are looking for professional advice about its structure. Whatever support you are looking for, HPES will provide prompt feedback, taking your writing to the next level.
Our work with you will be tailored to meet your specific requirements, making sure your document meets the needs of your target audience. We are committed to a collaborative approach, working with clients to raise the quality of their writing.
We accept projects in fiction and non-fiction, from short stories to novels, from brochures to newspaper articles and from blogs to full website text. We will help you to make sure that your work is free from plagiarism and does not accidentally breach copyright.
HPES is run by Donald Paterson, who is based in Fortrose in the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands. Donald has a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature and Language from Aberdeen University. He worked for many years as an English teacher and as a Principal Teacher of English in Scottish secondary schools. He served as an education officer in the Highlands, supporting school leaders with improvement planning and report writing. He has also worked as a secondary school inspector with the Scottish Government, and in that role had responsibility for producing high quality reports following inspection activity. Donald is a published novelist, and his novel Homecomings was shortlisted for the Saltire First Novel Award.
Donald also studied proofreading and copy editing at the College of Media and Publishing, qualifying with distinction. He set up HPES so that his learning over a varied career can be put to good use assisting clients in producing the finest quality text.
We are happy to accept projects from any location and have a particular interest in supporting businesses and individuals from the Scottish Highlands. Whatever your project involves, we maintain a strict confidentiality policy, and will never share your documents with anyone else. Once we have completed your project we will delete your files from our storage.
